SB 172, 64th R.S.
Authorizing and requiring the State of Texas, its agencies and departments, and all of its political subdivisions employing one or more peace officers to provide legal services and representation for such officers, without cost to the officer, in any lawsuit for damages arising out of a tort claim that such officer was acting, at the time the damages were sustained, in the discharge of his official duties; defining certain terms; providing procedures for retaining counsel for such officer; providing for immunity from liability for acts or ommissions by counsel so provided; limiting the liability of units of government where the officer retains his own counsel; providing procedures in cases where the unit of government refuses to provide counsel; prescribing the conditions under which the unit of government is liable for attorney's fee of counsel retained by the officer; exempting all units of government from liability for judgment for money damages rendered against such officers.
