He was commissioned a first lieutenant the same year and was assigned to Kelly Field, Wright Field at Dayton, Ohio, and Bolling Field in Washington, D.C. successively. He became a pilot in the fall of 1918. He was discharged from the service as a captain in the Air Corps." San Angelo Standard-Times.
