"William Joseph 'Cowboy' Carson, 63, among the last of the old-time cowboys who herded cattle in the early days . . . was know[n] as the 'Cowboy Representative.' He served in the 38th legislature active in promoting the establishment of Texas Technological College in west Texas as a member of the committee on public lands and buildings."
