"At the age of twenty years he served in the Franco-Prussian War as an officer in Oldenburger Cavallerie regiment, taking part in the battles of Spichern Heights, St. Miehel, Gravalotte, Mars-la-Tour and others. He was presented with the iron cross and other emblems in recognition of distinguished service were conferred upon him by the grand Duke of Oldenburg." Obituary and photo, "B.
