Charges
- Study issues relating to the potential transportation of high-level nuclear waste through Texas and the potential disposal of that waste within this state.
- Examine all matters of relevance to the State of Texas arising from the federal program for high-level radioactive waste disposal established by the federal Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982.
- Investigate the ramifications of waste transportation through Texas even should this state not be chosen for a repository site.
- Examine the effect of Section 205 of the federal Safe Water Drinking Act Amendments of 1986 with respect to potential legal restraints on the selection of a Texas repository site.

Senate Resolution 571 called for the creation of the Select Committee on High Level Nucelar Waste. No action was taken.
