HBA-CBW S.B. 1413 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Office of House Bill AnalysisS.B. 1413 By: Lindsay Criminal Jurisprudence 5/7/2001 Engrossed BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Under current law, a hospital that has treated a crime victim is allowed to submit an invoice to the compensation to victims of crime fund in an amount up to $50,000 for compensation for those services. Senate Bill 1413 increases from $50,000 to $100,000 the awards payable to a victim and all other claimants sustaining pecuniary loss because of injury or death of that victim. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. ANALYSIS Senate Bill 1413 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to increase from $50,000 to $100,000 awards payable to a victim and all other claimants sustaining pecuniary loss because of injury or death of that victim. EFFECTIVE DATE September 1, 2001.
