Introduced

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Current law limits the compensation of election judges and clerks to no
more than $6 an hour. Some counties find it difficult to hire enough
election workers at this salary. House Bill 2115 establishes a wage of at
least $6 an hour for election judges and clerks.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does
not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

House Bill 2115 amends the Election Code to change the amount of
compensation an election judge or clerk is entitled to for services
rendered at a precinct polling place to be an amount fixed by the
appropriate authority at an hourly rate of at least $6.

EFFECTIVE DATE

September 1, 2001.
