BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

The 75th Legislature established the Strategic Military Planning Commission
(commission) in order to develop a pro-active statewide strategy to prevent
future defense closures and realignments. The commission developed a master
plan which includes performing a careful study of defense-related work in
Texas and maintaining a database of contractors who perform defense-related
work that could retain and attract additional defense-related business to
Texas. S.B. 607 requires the Office of Defense Affairs to develop and
maintain a database of certain contractors who perform defenserelated work
in this state.
