BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Currently, the Government Code excepts the contact information of Texas
peace officers and information regarding their families from public
disclosure. However, if a peace officer is killed in the line of duty,
that exception ceases to be extended to the deceased and the family of the
deceased. S.B. 1846 creates an exception from disclosure of certain
personal information regarding a peace officer killed in the line of duty.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does
not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, department, agency, or institution.
