HBA-SEB S.B. 1816 76(R) BILL ANALYSIS Office of House Bill AnalysisS.B. 1816 By: Harris Juvenile Justice and Family Issues 5/20/1999 Engrossed BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Currently, Texas law provides that a term of community supervision relating to the violation of an order affecting the parent-child relationship may not exceed five years. S.B. 1816 prohibits a community supervision period in such a case from exceeding 10, rather than five, years. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 157.212, Family Code, to prohibit a community supervision period from exceeding 10, rather than five, years. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1999. Makes application of this Act prospective. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
