BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Under current Texas law, the Texas State Cemetery Committee (committee) has
the authority to authorize the burial of a person in the state cemetery
(cemetery) only during a period in which the legislature is not convened,
and only if the committee finds that the person to be buried made a
significant contribution to Texas history. S.B. 1545 gives the committee
the authority to authorize a burial in the cemetery during the legislative
session.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does
not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, department, agency, or institution.
