BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Currently, Texas law requires nine members to serve on the Booker Hospital
District board of directors. Booker is a small town with a population of
approximately 1,300 citizens. Some community members who would make
valuable board members have already served at one time or another. This
can make it difficult to find qualified and willing candidates to serve on
the hospital board. S.B. 124 lowers the number of board members from nine
to seven. This may ease the burden of finding candidates to serve their
community hospital.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does
not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, department, agency, or institution.
