Introduced

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Currently, law enforcement officers from small municipalities in parts of
Harris County cannot apply to enforce federal transportation laws relating
to vehicle weight limits. H.B. 2160 makes a police officer of a
municipality with a population less than 25,000, with certain restrictions,
eligible to apply for certification in order to enforce commercial motor
vehicle safety standards.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does
not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, department, agency, or institution.
