HB 22, 61st 1st C.S.
Relating to establishing and adopting an Antiquities Code for the State of Texas; setting forth the public policy of the State with respect to archaeological and historical sites and items; creating an Antiquities Committee of five members; providing for the organization, compensation, duties, powers, and procedures of the Antiquities Committee; empowering the Antiquities Committee to enter into contracts for research and salvage activities on State Landmarks; providing for the designation of certain sites on private lands as State Archaeological Landmarks with the consent of the owner thereof; providing for a means of fair compensation to the salvager operating under permit from the Antiquities Committee; making it unlawful to intentionally deface aboriginal or Indian rock art; making it unlawful to enter the enclosed lands of another without permission and intentionally take, damage, or destroy any archaeological or historical site, structure, or monument on private lands; providing a penalty for violations of this Act; providing for injunctive relief for violations of this Act and providing for venue thereof.
