Charges
- The Committee shall examine the reorganization of the Texas Education Agency.
- The Committee shall monitor the implementation of legislation concerning school finance.
- The Committee shall study and monitor the progress and impact of recent and pending court cases on public education.
- The Committee shall examine the types of schedules in use in other states and in Texas districts utilizing a year-round schedule to determine the benefits to students, parents and teachers in those districts because of non-traditional scheduling. The Committee shall study the feasibility of year-round educational programs for students as a means of promoting educational advancement and retention in the public school system.
- The Committee shall examine the issue of financial access to higher education for students of all economic backgrounds, including without limitation the effect of tuition increases, the appropriateness of the amount of tuition currently set aside for financial aid, and the availability of loans, work-study programs and other means of financial assistance.
- The Committee shall study and monitor the use of appropriated funds, including the technology allotment and vocational and compensatory education funds.
- The Committee shall examine options for scheduling and access to higher education for non-traditional students.
- The Committee shall monitor the Comptroller's Texas Performance Review of Independent School Districts.
